    Description

[PILGRIMS, MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY, PLYMOUTH, HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS]
    On offer here is an
ORIGINAL & EARLY, 1718 MASSACHUSETTS BAY COLONY (PLYMOUTH / BRIDGEWATER) LAND DEED DOCUMENT SIGNED BY SEVERAL IMPORTANT EARLY MEMBERS OF MASSACHUSETTS FAMILIES
    .
The document measures 12.75 in x 16.25 in on laid paper bearing a royal watermark. The document is in very good antiquarian condition with the usual fold creases as shown.
This deed changes title from Francis Cary (1647 - 1718) to a Joseph 'Allden' (Alden) (1667 - 1747) for the 'consideration of 30 pounds in money'. The document is then signed by
    Francis Cary
    (with his red wax seal),
    Robert Stetson (Jr.
    ; b. 1653) (his mark),
    Joseph Hayward
    (1646 - 1718),
    Capt. Josiah Edson
(1682 - 1762) and then later recorded by
    Josiah Cotton
    (1679 - 1756)
in the records of deed in 1749. The land in question seems to be 20 acres of a larger 50 acre parcel.
An excerpt of the document reads:
"....bounded at the west end by a heap of stones on the Baylyes plain & running from thence East Eighty Eight rod to a Great Rock & from thence still East to the Great River & then running up by the river to a swamp white oak marked on four sides & from swamp white oak running fourth by west to the heap of stones formentioned..."
An interesting, scarce and displayable artifact of early Bridgewater & Plymouth County Massachusetts with the names of several early members of Pilgrim families.
