After World War 2 the US 10th mountain division switched from old wood and leather "Bear paw" snow shoes to these newer magnesium, racquet type trail shoes. These were worn in the snowy wilderness and even overseas by some US troops participating in military exercises in Europe. Made from magnesium, so if needed you can scrape some flakes off these if you're having trouble starting a fire (yes, this is a real thing). These are extremely well made of magnesium and stainless steel cable.  The bindings are made of heavy duty Nylon straps with heavy duty buckles. US military Snowshoes.  Snowshoes distribute weight over a largemouth area, keeping the wearer from sinking with every step, a great replacement for skis in rough terrain. These are hard wearing US 1983 Army surplus, made in Canada. One size fits all, by moving the attachment points of the straps and tightening them you can fit almost any kind and size of shoe or boots. Most importantly is that your feet stay on the snow shoe and don't wobble around.
